Jonathan Isaac Macy grew up in New Jersey. He earned his BA and MD degrees at Boston University in 1976, with election to Phi Beta Kappa. After graduation, Dr. Macy married Jeannette (a native of Uruguay), and moved to Los Angeles to do an Internal Medicine internship at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center. A subsequent Research Fellowship at the Doheny Eye Institute led to an Ophthalmology residency at USC, which was completed in 1981. His daughter Alexandra (Duke University) was born during his rotation through the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital in 1980. She is a medical student at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York. His son Adam (Columbia) was born in 1983. Adam is studying for an MBA at the Zicklin School of Business, Baruch College in New York. Since completion of his Ophthalmology training, Dr. Macy has been in private practice adjacent to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

In addition to a busy office and surgery practice, Dr. Macy finds time to serve as the President of the Beverly Hills District of the Los Angeles County Medical Association. He was recently the President of the California Academy of Ophthalmology, Junior Blind of America and the Board of Trustees of Midway Hospital. He is a Vice President of the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation. To teach future Ophthalmologists, Dr. Macy is an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at both USC and UCLA. As the author of more than 100 abstracts, chapters and papers, Dr. Macy has delivered more than 300 lectures around the world (CV link). He is frequently called upon as an expert witness for state and federal government agencies, corporations, investment bankers, and attorneys. He is a consultant to many pharmaceutical companies as a clinical researcher into new drug therapies. He often seeks patients for participation in the final phases of FDA trials. As an expert in cataract surgery, Dr. Macy has been a leader in laser surgery for nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), astigmatism (surface irregularity) and presbyopia (reading glasses). Dr. Macy has written, lectured and taught courses for other Ophthalmologists in Radial Keratotomy (RK), Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK and LASEK) and Laser in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK). and grew up in suburban New Jersey.
