What happens after Lasik Eye Surgery? By Macy Eye Center on January 13, 2023

What to expect After LASIK

Your eye surgeon places a see-through shield over your eyes and will ask you to wear a shield while sleeping for a few days. This is to help protect your eyes while they heal.
For the first day, you should plan to go home and take a nap or just relax after the surgery.

For a few hours, your eyes may feel scratchy or feel a burning sensation. You will be given special eye drops to reduce dryness and help your eye heal. A schedule will be reviewed to use these drops over the first week.

About 50% of patients feel comfortable driving to clinic the next day, but this should be case by case if you feel comfortable. The majority of the healing takes place over the next few days with complete recovery at 1 month from surgery.
